Kerry came to faith in Christ while a student at Penn State University through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. In 1979, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Financial Management. During the summer of 1979, he joined a new Campus Crusade for Christ endeavor called Stop out for Christ. This ministry was the brainchild of Warren Willis who was the director of the Campus Crusade ministry in Micronesia. The key concept was to get students or recent graduates to commit to a one or two year "internship" to help reach the Micronesian people with the gospel.
After spending two years in the islands of Micronesia and seeing God use Kerry in evangelistic efforts, he sensed a call to full-time ministry and joined Campus Crusade Staff. For the next 21 years he was involved in the Win, Build, Send strategy in the Campus Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.
Kerry's last assignment with Campus Crusade for Christ was a member of a matrix leadership team as a regional director serving the staff and ministries of the Mid-Atlantic Region of Campus Crusade for Christ.
In 2001, the leadership of Church of the Saviour approached him about joining the leadership team of the church. At that time, the church model was also a matrix leadership model and did not include a senior pastor but rather a team approach to leadership. The team consisted of three teaching pastors and the newly created position called the Executive Director.
Church of the Saviour is a 35 year old church located in the suburbs of Philadelphia and is wrestling with a renewed vision and direction for the future. As a part of this reformation of direction, the elder "oversight" role was evaluated and a modified Carver Model of governance was adopted. The leadership role at Church of the Saviour is now a unique role where the Executive Pastor and Primary Pastor Teacher are equal team members, each reporting directly to the Elder Board. (No longer a full matrix leadership model but now dual leadership).
Kerry's heart for ministry is to see non believers come to faith and become multiplying disciple-makers. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he bleeds Eagle green and knows the people of Philadelphia need the transforming power of the gospel. His heart is to see a multiplying church planting movement sweep into Philadelphia and to transform the people of the "City of Brotherly Love".
Kerry is now married to Becky (Bjorngaard) and has two grown children. Kerry's first wife and the mother of the children passed away in 1996 after a six year battle with POEMS Syndrome. Jennifer, serves as nurse at the Dupont Children's Hospital in Wilmington Delaware and Dan is a junior at Penn State University. Kerry's graduate education has been pursued in addition to his normal ministry responsibilities. He has accumulated more than 90 graduate credits from 4 evangelical seminaries but to date has not completed degree requirements.
