Phil Taylor

Phil TaylorPhil holds degrees from Philadelphia Biblical University and Dallas Theological Seminary. He brings to the table ten years of business management experience and five years of pastoral experience. In January 2006, he planted Terra Nova Church with a couple of friends as an effort to reach creative left leaning blue state types and those disenfranchised by an overly corporate model of church life. To this end, Terra Nova rents space for worship in a gritty 200-year-old shirt factory turned nightclub/bar and has art gallery in its office and education space on the same city block. God has graciously allowed them to build a congregation of roughly 250 gifted musicians, artists, writers, filmmakers and those who appreciate the creativity that flows from being made in the image of God.

While Phil bemoans the tragically formal sound of “Executive Pastor” he senses an overwhelming calling to that role. Phil is passionate about missional church planting and is convinced that the prototypical “Lead Planting Pastor” is more effective when paired with a prototypical “Executive Planting Pastor”. Whenever possible, Phil attempts to promote and serve the XP community within the Acts 29 Church Planting Network of which he is a member.

He has been married to Aimee for ten years and they have two energetic little girls. When he finds free time, he typically tosses his Kayak in the nearest body of water, which is normally the Hudson River. Phil’s pet project at church is something called “Theology at the Taproom” which combines his love of classic works of theology and well-crafted microbrewed beer.
