- Title: Minister to Junior High
- Reports to: Family Minister
- Works with: Ministers in the Department of Family
- Supported by:Family Administrative Assistant [Youth] and Family Administrative Assistant [Children]
- Supervises: Junior High Interns and Volunteers
- Scope:The Junior High Minister is responsible for developing a ministry that balances Outreach, Community and Equipping for the purpose of Discipling students to impact the world. Within the Family Department: Develop and cultivate Junior High Ministry within the NBC strategy WISER; work with the Minister to High School, to coordinate between junior high and high school ministry; communicate the needs of Junior High students to the Family Ministry team and NBC staff.
Weekly Responsibilities (50%)
- Oversee, plan and coordinate Sunday morning experience.
- Recruit, train, and shepherd staff to plan and lead Sunday morning experience.
- Oversee, plan, and coordinate Wednesday night Ministry
- Build intentional relationships with students that point them to a restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Camps and Events (20%)
- Plan and lead significant events that are outreached focused, fun, safe, purposeful and attractive to Jr Highers
- Plan, Lead, administrate student leadership and service events
- Work with Sr Pastor and team to plan and lead NBC summer camp
- Lead, plan, and administrate BLOB trips
- Plan, organize and lead one weeklong camp targeting the whole group (SA)
- Plan, organize and lead missions trip for entire group
- Maintain safe environment for all junior high gatherings within NBC procedures
Staff & Parent Development (20%)
- Recruit, Interview, train and shepherd all new lay staff candidates, ensuring appropriate background checks and compliance with the procedures of the Jr. High ministry.
- Plan and lead the staff; disciple and encourage staff; mentor the male staff.
- Creatively prepare opportunities for staff advancement in ministry.
- Interview, hire, lead, and evaluate interns with the Family Minister.
- Lead interns spiritually and provide growth opportunities for them within the ministry.
- Meet and counsel parents as needed.
Ministerial Issues (10%)
- Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms, communion, etc.
- Participate in Staff and Communicator Meetings and Family Ministry meetings.
- Participate in all church events as needed: Fall Fun Festival, World Passion Week
This search is led by our Executive Pastor. The following four step process will be used:
- Candidates will send a resume and cover letter to our Executive Pastor, David Fletcher, preferably by e-mail, drfletcher@nbctexas.org.
- Resumes will be read by the Executive Pastor, and may be read by the Minister of Family and the Minister of High School.
- Candidates will receive an e-mail acknowledgement of receipt of resume within one day.
- Candidates will receive an initial review of their resume with ten days.
- Upon review of resumes, some candidates will be contacted for telephone interviews, conducted by the Executive Pastor, the Minister of Family or the Minister of High School.
- Compensation and benefits will be discussed at this time.
- References will be checked by two or more people.
- Candidates will be asked to prepare a written evaluation of the job description, evidencing their passion for Jr. High ministry.
- After telephone interviews, a select candidate (or candidates) will have on-site interviews. These will include the ministerial staff, parents and students.
- We will patiently search for the right person ... whether we find that person in the first month or the twelfth ... we are more interested in God's person than in checking off boxes in our search process.
- Preference for a seminary graduate
- Preference that the Minister be married

- Want to challenge students to go deeper in the faith
- Reaches unbelievers in relevant ways
- Can enter into the culture of a student but doesn't live there

We are looking for a man or woman (we have a preference for a seminary graduate) who is passionately pursuing Jesus Christ, who loves Jr. High school kids and parents, who develops parents, who challenges students to go deeper in the faith, who worships with students in our contemporary worship service, who reaches unbelievers in relevant ways, who enters into the zany culture of a student but doesn't live there, who can creatively work through problems, who has worked through authority issues with his own parents, who teaches and mentors others, who empowers volunteer staff and interns, who leads and yet is a team player, who knows his gifts and limitations, who is gracious when interacting with others, and who relates well to twenty other ministers on staff.
We are an evangelical church that is committed to Equipping, Community and Outreach. In Outreach, we reach our neighbors with the love of Christ, serve the poor and homeless in our community and share the gospel internationally. In Community, we bring folks together in small groups and community groups for life transformation. In Equipping, we help people get started in spiritual things, discover the basics of the faith, then grow in maturity.
